When to Purchase a Wedding Dress

When to Purchase a Wedding Dress

After you get engaged, one of the biggest steps in planning your wedding is finding the perfect wedding dress. Knowing when to buy your dress is key, as it’s a major step in the planning process. To help you know when to buy your dress, we’re giving you a timeline for buying a wedding dress.

After The Engagement

Once you’ve said yes and have begun planning, start thinking about your dress! Check out inspiration on Pinterest and in magazines, and take note of which dresses you like. After you’ve found your venue and date, start booking appointments to find your wedding dress! It’s key to wait until you’ve chosen a date and venue, so you’re able to better imagine your wedding day.

10-12 Months Before

It may seem early, but you need to start shopping 10-12 months before! Since your wedding dress is a high end garment, it takes several months after you order it for the designer to fully construct the wedding dress. They need source materials and craft each embellishment, so the process doesn’t happen overnight.

3 Months Before

After your dress arrives, you’ll likely need a few alterations. They could be small changes, like raising your hem or tightening a strap, or bigger alterations, like neckline changes and adding or removing sleeves. You’ll start the alteration process three months before, and afterwards have two more fittings four and two weeks out from the wedding to ensure everything fits perfectly.

One Week Before

One week before the wedding, you’ll come pick your dress up. Everything will be completely ready, and the only thing left to do is wear it!
